The role of an Aunt can vary from family to family. An aunt can be my mother's sister, my grandma's daughter, a stranger, and if you're lucky, your friend. My Aunt Carolyn was everything but a stranger. Even though our family lived most of our years away from Denver, she was still very much a part of our life. She birthed wonderful children who have become more friends than cousins. She was the one who discovered I was allergic to penicillin and nursed me back to health. She's the one who would play gin rummy with me and my mom and feed me those wonderful Mother's animal cookies. She came downtown when my percussion ensemble from BYU-Idaho was in town. She's also the one who insisted on coming to my wedding in Nauvoo and doing all she could to help. She was always someone you could talk to and count on honest advice. But she was never the one I expected to leave in this way. Her fighting spirit fought the cancer as long and as hard as it could and hopefully is at rest now. I can't wait to see her again. I love you and miss you already Aunt Carolyn!
